Inquiry Heads to New York

I wanted to bring you up to date with a recent development of my role in the UN Environment Inquiry’s work plan and goals. Starting last week, I am on temporary secondment to the Office of the Secretary General in New York to support the Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohamed, in formulating a UN strategy for its contribution to ensuring the effective financing of the 2030 Agenda. I will be supported by other members of the Inquiry team, both at process and content levels.

Clearly this work will take advantage of the Inquiry’s efforts, outcomes and networks developed over the last three and a half years. In addition, any strategy will need to include financing aspects not covered by the Inquiry as appropriate, going beyond ‘green’ to the wider 2030 Agenda and including for example the role of DFIs and domestic public finance. The work will also draw from the work of existing UN initiatives such as the Task Force on Financing for Development and the UN Group of Friends of SDG Financing as well as other perspectives, experiences and expertise, including hopefully yours.

Needless to say, we continue to deliver on the Inquiry’s existing work program and deliverables. I will continue in my role as co-Director and with my colleagues lead the Inquiry’s work, maintaining a particular focus on our G20 and digital finance work, as well as our international work such as the roadmap on sustainable finance with the World Bank Group and others.

I welcome as always your guidance and support.
