- ICT and Low Carbon Growth in China - 17 December 2010, Beijing, China
The background paper ICT and Low Carbon Development in China – prepared by Simon Zadek, Maya Forstater, Kelly Yu and Jon Kornik for DESC China – was presented at the 2010 Summit on China’s ICT and Low Carbon Economy Development organised by the Ministry of Industry and Information, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
Simon Zadek delivered a keynote address introducing the background paper, following opening speeches by Ministerial officials. Other keynote speakers include the Chinese Presidents of Intel, HP, Lenovo and Nokia. Simon’s presentation (bi-lingual) can be viewed below and downloaded as a PDF.
- South African Renewables Initiative (SARi) – December 2010, Cancun COP16
The South African Government’s SARi, of which Simon is team leader, was presented as a case study during DB Group and UNEP Finance Initiative’s workshop parallel to COP16 ‘GET FiT: De-risking clean energy business models in a developing country context’. Also presented at a private session on finance looking at the investment challenge for low carbon infrastructure in developing countries and the need for dimensional change in the flow of private capital into developing countries for clean energy projects – as part of the Cancun Dialogues hosted by GreenSolutions@COP16 in partnership with WEF.

Having launched the Creating Shared Value concept at the United Nations in New York last year, on Thursday 27 May 2010 Nestlé co-hosted, with the International Business Leaders’ Forum, the second Global Creating Shared Value Forum, to introduce Creating Shared Value to an audience of leading authorities. Simon Zadek participated on the Creating Shared Value: Leveraging Business for Development panel along with Jane Nelson, Michael Porter and others.

Simon Zadek’s presentation for the launch of the Responsible Competitiveness in China 2009: Seizing the low carbon opportunity for green development. The Joint Statement of the 12th EU-China Business Summit specifically “decided to strengthen high-level dialogue and exchanges between think-tanks from both sides, and to promote and support regular exchanges.” Read the Joint Statement in full.

The AccountAbility Forum was conceived by Simon Zadek and approved by AccountAbility’s Governing Council as an innovative governance tool that allows for more inclusivity. It is an annual convening of partners, members, associates and core team together with Governing Council to review and provide guidance on the organization’s future plans and activities. It helps assess and provide feedback on AccountAbility’s activities and strategic planning.
